Or as we will be calling it from now on, LC101.1, to be followed by LC101.2, LC101.3, etc.
So our Day 1 Agenda was pretty light, it being an orientation type of day.
A full room of aspiring coders, of all shapes, colors, sizes and ages, was pretty inspiring to see.
Learned how to access our online coursework on the LC101 Canvas and joined our Slack Channel.
We were assigned teams and teaching assistants (T.A.’s). We came up with group names and logos. Our TA is Kevin and our team name is Kode Heads (homage to Coneheads and a tip of the hat to Kevin with the K). We have a graphic artist on our team so the illustration was pretty good.
We then had a lecture from the head instructor Omar, on some basic topics, many of which we covered in the pre-work:
- Basics of Programming
- algorithms
- pseudocode
- input, processing (logic, math and conditionals), and output
- Loops
- for loops (iterate through lists of items)
- while loops (conditional loops)
- Variables
- variable assignment
- what constitutes a good variable name and what does not
- Debugging
- syntax errors
- runtime errors
- semantic errors
I took notes, but they will also send us the slides on Slack so I won’t miss anything.
Now we have homework to do.
I do so love being in school again.
Three of the people in my group live in my neighborhood so I am looking forward to learning and making new relationships. So awesome!
See ya on Thursday! I’ve got homework to do !!
